At the beating heart of every F-TYPE is a powerful supercharged engine: 3.0 liter 340 horsepower V6, 3.0 liter 380 horsepower V6 or 5.0 liter 550 horsepower V8.
Every one features a Roots-type twin-vortex supercharger, mounted in the "V" of the engine to preserve its compact dimensions.
Jaguar is a leader in the field of supercharged induction technology. Supercharging provides linear power delivery and instant access to high levels of torque at virtually all engine speeds, minimizing the gap between the driver’s demand and the engine’s response.

For the driving enthusiast, the F-TYPE and F-TYPE S RWD offer a manual gearbox. This close ratio 6-speed lightweight unit is specifically designed for the performance requirements of sports car driving. The precision-engineered short-throw gear lever delivers quick, smooth and responsive changes so you are in complete control over gear selection and timing.


With eight closely spaced gear ratios keeping the engine in its most effective operating range, the F-TYPE "QuickShift" automatic transmission is both fast and smooth. The gearbox’s control system is intelligent and adaptive. It monitors the driving situation, combined with driver demand, and responds to provide a truly dynamic experience. Intelligent and adaptive software automatically modifies shift strategy, ensuring the right gear is selected for every situation. The transmission can be controlled manually with the standard shift paddles mounted behind the spokes of the steering wheel.


The all wheel drive system on the F-TYPE S AWD and F-TYPE R offers performance with poise, delivering outstanding, confident handling in demanding conditions.4 Available with the "QuickShift" automatic transmission, AWD works with Jaguar’s Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) to constantly analyze the needs of all four wheels independently. It decides exactly where to deliver power to optimize traction and stability.4

IDD is designed to sense impending understeer or oversteer situations, where either front or rear wheels start to loose traction during rapid cornering, and to swiftly deploys more power to the other wheels in proportion to the level of traction they can achieve, maximizing control in the most demanding conditions.4


An Active Sport Exhaust, standard on the F-TYPE with manual transmission, uses Active Bypass Valves to allow exhaust gases to exit more directly for a deep, dramatic sound. For even greater driver involvement, a Driver-selectable Active Exhaust with manual control is standard on the S and R and an option on the F-TYPE with automatic transmission.


Aerodynamic efficiency is seamlessly integrated into the F-TYPE body. A front splitter manages airflow under the car while the sharply defined tail helps air separate cleanly at lower speeds. A deployable rear spoiler rises at higher speeds to reduce lift by up to 264 pounds.3 Even the door handles retract when not required. Their flush design enhances uninterrupted airflow along the flanks.


The F-TYPE suspension’s damping is optimized for the best partnership between dynamics and refinement, giving the perfect combination of control, agility and feedback. On the  F-TYPE S and F-TYPE R models, Adaptive Dynamics4 assesses body motion and pitch rates 100 times per second, and adjusts the settings for each damper accordingly.4 The system improves control, handling and agility as well as the ability to rapidly detect and react to critical driving conditions and driver demands. It achieves this with a series of sensors that are placed around the car to monitor the body’s vertical movement, pitch and roll rates. The steering wheel position is measured 500 times a second enabling the system to predict the body’s roll rate. The stiffness of each individual damper is then adjusted to help maintain body control, stability and agility.


The F-TYPE R model offers superb handling, feel, grip and controllability. It has all the inherent duality of everyday usability with the character of an out-and-out sports car, putting the emphasis on greater agility and excitement and a crisper, edgier temperament. The F-TYPE R invites enthusiastic driving. Its Torque Vectoring technology is designed to provide controlled braking on the inside rear wheel, at the same time as feeding more power to the outside rear wheel, to help increase steering performance and inspire even greater driver confidence. The system works in conjunction with the Electronic Active Differential and Instinctive All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics to improve the cornering capabilities and driver control.4


A range of braking systems are available, each one engineered to deliver confident, progressive feel and sustained, consistent high performance. The front calipers make extensive use of aluminum to reduce the ‘unsprung mass’ of the car, benefiting both handling and ride refinement. Each system features large, ventilated brake discs – up to 380mm in diameter on the High Performance and Super Performance systems. This large ‘swept area’ improves braking force as well as providing greater capacity for the discs to absorb and dissipate the heat energy generated during braking. Adaptive Dynamics instinctively modifies the car’s response to conditions and your driving style4. It analyzes acceleration and braking, cornering, throttle and brake-pedal activity, as well as road load and kickdown activation. Sophisticated software in the suspension then selects an appropriate damping strategy, while also communicating with the transmission and engine control systems.

1. Upshifts are inhibited by fast throttle lift off. 

2. The system is designed to rapidly select lower gears under heavy braking. Front dampers stiffen to help keep the body level. 

3. Corner recognition holds the current gear through the bend to maintain stability. Outboard dampers stiffen to reduce body roll. 

4. The gearshift strategy also adapts to rapid acceleration. Rear dampers stiffen to help keep the car level during heavy acceleration.

Dynamic Mode4 remaps the car's software to sharpen throttle response, increase steering weighting, perform gear shifts more quickly at higher engine speeds, and, on S and R models, to stiffen the suspension.4 The sportier performance is visually emphasized as the instrument cluster and lighting for the door handles and central grab handle change to red.
