2013 Jaguar XF Features – Exterior, Interior & Safety

STREAMLINED AND AGGRESSIVE

Streamlined front fenders with side power vents, slim headlight units and a power-bulge hood sculpted for smooth airflow create the dynamic contours of the Jaguar XF. The effect is heightened by a large, upright grille opening and distinct front-bumper designs for XF, XFR and XF with Portfolio Sport Pack.

SIGNATURE LIGHTING

Integrated into the headlight units, LED lighting arranged in a “J Blade” formation provides a daytime visual signature of the Jaguar brand. LED light guide technology is also used for the rear lights – stop lights, taillights and turn signals – and the taillight design is strikingly shaped to extend into the trunk lid.

HEADLIGHTS WITH INTELLIGENCE

Standard bi-function HID xenon headlights are available with Adaptive Technology, directing the beam to bend in the direction of the steering. The Intelligent High Beam option automatically switches between high- and low-beam to adjust to oncoming or preceding traffic. Headlight washers are standard on all models.

ENHANCING VISIBILITY

The power exterior mirrors are heated to improve visibility in cold weather. In addition, available auto-dimming exterior mirrors, standard or optional depending on model, help reduce glare at night.

THE EXCLUSIVE TERRITORY OF “R”

The XFR presents specific design features to reflect its performance credentials – the front grilles are finished in black mesh, an exclusive bumper design houses larger twin air intakes, and louvers on the hood feature a “Supercharged” motif. Silver brake calipers display “Jaguar” in script. The theme continues with side-sill extensions, a rear air diffuser valance, aerodynamic rear spoiler, quad exhaust pipes and, of course, “R” badges on the grille and trunk lid.

XFR-S EXTERIOR DISTINCTIONS

It’s fast approaching: The XFR-S. It’s a new, high performance Jaguar that is designed to engage the enthusiastic driver with its purposeful stance including a more aggressive front end that showcases carbon fiber for the lower grille surround and front splitter. Other unique cues are 20-inch Varuna-style wheels, a carbon fiber rear diffuser and of course, prominent “R-S” badging.

PRECISE PARKING

Ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper, standard on all models, are designed to detect objects up to six feet away and provide the driver with an audible warning. Graphics on the Touch-screen display indicate the position of the object in relation to the car. A front parking aid, designed to alert the driver to objects ahead, and a rear camera, which displays digital video and guidance lines on the Touch-screen, are standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on all other models.1

SENSING PRECIPITATION

Standard on all models, rain-sensing wipers use windshield-mounted sensors to detect rain, snow and other precipitation, and switch on the wipers at the appropriate speed.

A STEALTHY OPTION

The XFR Black Package includes gloss black surrounds for windows, front grille insert and front bumper lower air intakes. The trunk-lid blade is also black. To complete the stealthy look, 20-inch Dark Gray Draco wheels with diamond-turned rims and red brake calipers are also included.

ADDING A SPORTING EDGE

The XF can be accentuated with the optional Portfolio Sport Pack, featuring a unique front bumper design with gloss black upper grille and black mesh inserts for the lower air intakes. Also included are side-sill extensions, a distinctive rear spoiler and unique 19-inch five V-spoke alloy Aquila alloy wheels. These exterior enhancements are complemented by 16/12-way power front seats in soft grain leather with contrast stitching. Heated and cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel are also part of this appealing package.

THE THRILL OF POWER

The sporty performance of the XFR can be further enhanced through the addition of the Speed Pack, which increases the top speed of the vehicle to a heart-throbbing 174mph3. The car is also visually differentiated by the addition of a front-bumper aero splitter and a larger trunk-lid spoiler with integrated rear brake light.

HALO ILLUMINATION

Phosphor Blue halo illumination highlights the switches, JaguarDrive Selector™, Start/Stop button, electronic parking brake and instrument panel, as well as the center and upper consoles, and the front door releases. The soft glow from this lighting highlights these controls without distracting you as you drive.

FINGER-TIP ACCESS

The leather steering wheel incorporates switches for cruise control and the available InteractiveVoice™ feature2, which is standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on all other models. These finger-tip controls can also be used to adjust the audio output – changing sound levels and switching between CD tracks, radio stations or selections on an iPod® or MP3 digital music player. In addition, a heated steering-wheel rim is standard on XF Supercharged and XFR, and optional on other models.

COMFORT AND SPORT

XF models offer a wide range of seating designs and colors, creating many opportunities for personalization. Depending on the XF model, a specific selection of leathers and wood veneers is available. In addition to standard heated front seats, active ventilated heated and cooled front seats are standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on other XF models.

TFT INSTRUMENT DISPLAY

The instrument cluster on the XF includes a full-color Thin Film Transistor (TFT) center display. With high contrast and sharp resolution graphics, this TFT display communicates key messages at a glance, such as the fuel gauge, entertainment and, when Navigation is fitted, trip information.

AMPLE STORAGE

In addition to a large glovebox, the XF has storage pockets in each door and on the backs of the front seats. Because the JaguarDrive Selector™ takes up less room than a traditional gear selector, there is ample space in the front center console for CD storage, two auxiliary power sockets, the Front Media Interface and two cupholders. Another two cupholders are located in the rear center armrest. The spacious trunk has a 17.7 cubic foot capacity and the available 60/40 split-folding rear seats add even greater utility.

IN THE THEME OF "R"

The XFR interior is designed to complement its sporting performance. The 18-way power driver’s and 14-way power front passenger’s seats are upholstered using soft grain leather, and feature substantial bolstering, which is power adjustable, for greater comfort while cornering. “R” badges on the instrument panel, steering wheel and front headrests, plus red needles on the gauges signal that this is the sportiest XF model.

“R-S” DISTINCTIONS

The XFR-S is the pinnacle of XF performance. The interior of this driver-focused sports sedan features warm charcoal “carbon” and soft grain leather sport seats with micro-piping and stitching, and a unique piano black and dark linear aluminum trim combination. The “R-S” logo is displayed on the fascia, steering wheel, tread plates, carpet mats and even embossed on the seats. Color combinations available are: Black seating with Red, Reims Blue or Ivory stitching and piping.

MAINTAINING AN IDEAL TEMPERATURE

The dual-zone automatic climate control system provides individual temperature controls for the driver and front passenger. The system also features air particle and odor filtration, as well as humidity control and automatic window demisting.

INTELLIGENT KEYS

The Jaguar Smart Key System™ maximizes driver convenience. Keyless start, standard on all models, is activated as you get into the car – just press the start/stop button and the Jaguar engine comes to life. Keyless entry, standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on all other models, adds even more convenience. Approach the XF with the Jaguar Smart Key in your bag or pocket, pull the door release and the system unlocks the door and disarms the security system. Pressing any door handle button as you leave locks and reengages the security protection.

INTERIOR PACK

The Interior Pack, available only on XF Supercharged, features 18/14-way power front sports seats, including power-adjustable bolsters. Adding a touch of sparkle, bright finish accelerator and brake pedal cladding is also included.

ADVANCED POWERTRAIN TECHNOLOGIES

For the first time, all XF engines are boosted with turbocharging or supercharging for optimal performance. All three Jaguar engines – inline four, V6 and V8 – showcase the latest engineering technologies. High-pressure direct fuel injection delivers fuel precisely to the center of the combustion chamber, maximizing air/fuel mixing for optimal power and efficiency. Variable Camshaft Timing eliminates the compromise between low-speed torque and high-RPM power, while helping to reduce emissions and increase fuel economy. The turbocharger on the inline four is an advanced low-inertia design that spins up quickly for satisfying response off idle. And on XF Supercharged and XFR models, a sixth-generation Eaton® supercharger with optimized air intakes and rotor geometry delivers improved efficiency with reduced noise and vibration.

ALL-NEW TURBOCHARGED JAGUAR INLINE FOUR

To increase fuel economy but still retain the expected response of a Jaguar car, the XF is now available with a new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder Jaguar engine. It delivers outstanding driveability and strong performance across all engine operating speeds. With 240 horsepower and 251 pound-feet of torque, this all-new engine produces the kind of power that was typical of small V8s just a few years ago. What’s more, the Jaguar XF with this turbocharged four achieves a 30-mpg EPA highway rating.†

ALL-NEW SUPERCHARGED JAGUAR V6

Drawing on key technologies used in the Jaguar V8, the new supercharged 3.0-liter Jaguar V6 offers eight-cylinder-like performance but with enhanced efficiency. This 340-horsepower V6 uses a high 10.5:1 compression ratio – something unheard of in supercharged engines just a few years ago. This highly efficient compression ratio is made possible in part by electronically managed boost control and an air-to-water intercooler to reduce the temperature of the incoming compressed air. The engine also features counter-rotating front and rear balancer weights for smoothness and refinement befitting a Jaguar car. Coupled to the wide-ratio eight-speed automatic transmission, and with standard Intelligent Stop/Start, the supercharged Jaguar V6 delivers spirited acceleration as well as surprising efficiency.

JAGUAR INSTINCTIVE ALL WHEEL DRIVE™

The Jaguar XF Instinctive All Wheel Drive1 (AWD) system employs an active power transfer control technology that adds the benefits of enhanced traction while retaining the sporty agility and steering feel of the rear-wheel drive version. Jaguar Instinctive AWD is an intelligent, continuously variable drivetrain with a built-in rear-wheel bias to ensure an authentic Jaguar driving experience. The heart of the system is an electronically controlled “Torque on Demand” coupling that uses a variety of sensors to determine how much power to send to the front and rear wheels. Driver selection of Normal, Winter or Dynamic modes also affects how the system operates.

On the move, the intelligent system continuously monitors driving and road conditions to help maximize traction and handling balance. The front-to-rear torque split can vary from most of the torque on the rear wheels to as much as 50 percent on the front wheels. What’s more, the AWD system can even take action pre-emptively to ensure the best possible grip in a variety of road and weather conditions.

WINTER MODE COMES STANDARD

The JaguarDrive Control™ system on every XF model features Winter Mode, a sophisticated setting that helps maintain traction on snowy, wet roads. When activated, Winter Mode transforms the way the XF responds: The engine, transmission and Dynamic Stability Control work together to help avoid slipping and skidding while maximizing power delivery in adverse weather conditions.1 When selected on XF 3.0 AWD, Winter Mode changes the default front/rear torque split to 30/70 percent.

XFR-S PERFORMANCE

The XFR-S features a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 producing 550 HP and 502 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s enough to clock 0-60 mph in an impressive 4.4 seconds3, and reach a top speed of 186 mph3. Other enhancements from the XFR include “Quickshift” technology which ensures quick shifts with almost no perceptible interruption of torque delivery, lowered ride height, stiffer dampers and bushings and a tuned performance exhaust that makes the car feel even more alive.

ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE

This braking system works with the JaguarDrive Selector™, automatically releasing the parking brake as you begin to drive away. You can also choose to release the parking brake manually.

SHARPENED RESPONSE

Adaptive Dynamics – fitted only on the high-performance XF Supercharged and XFR – is designed to sharpen the already impressive handling response. The system analyzes chassis movement, driver input and wheel motions up to 500 times per second. Based on this input, suspension settings are continuously adjusted to maintain a flat and level stance, improving handling without negatively affecting ride comfort.

CONTROLLING TRACTION

The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), which helps optimize traction in a curve or during straight-line acceleration, has two settings. The default setting helps modulate loss of traction as soon as it is detected. The Trac setting, on the other hand, allows a higher degree of wheelspin, for sportier driving or when fitting snow chains.

JAGUAR SEQUENTIAL SHIFT™

The ZF® eight-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission provides smooth yet quick gear changes, and uses adaptive shift technologies to vary transmission operation for economy or performance, depending upon your driving style. For greater driver involvement, paddle shifters positioned behind the steering wheel offer manual gear-selection control. The wide range of ratios available from eight forward speeds offers enhanced efficiency as well as smoother performance.

JAGUARDRIVE SELECTOR™ AND JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL™

The transmission is controlled by the beautifully designed JaguarDrive Selector, which rises into your hand once the “Start/Stop” button is pressed. Simply rotate the selector to move from Park to Reverse or Drive. JaguarDrive Control offers specific settings for the drivetrain: Dynamic Mode for more responsive acceleration, and Winter Mode to provide more progressive throttle control in slippery conditions.1

INTELLIGENT STOP/START

Part of the Jaguar sustainability strategy, Intelligent Stop/Start, standard on all V6 and V8 models, detects when it is appropriate to shut off the engine and instantly restart it. Upon coming to a full stop, the engine will shut down. The moment you release the brake pedal, it will restart. The system even incorporates “change of mind” logic to reduce any hesitation in restarting.

A new twin-solenoid starter with upgraded motor, a secondary battery plus sophisticated electronic controls make all of this possible. The system will not operate under certain circumstances, such as very hot or cold ambient temperatures or if climate-control performance will be compromised. It can also be turned off via a switch located on the center panel, but its operation is both seamless and beneficial, saving fuel and reducing emissions.

MAXIMIZING REAR GRIP

The electronic Active Differential on the XF Supercharged and XFR is designed to maximize the available grip at each rear wheel. It is designed to detect any slippage, and apportion the power supplied to each wheel to optimize traction under a variety of conditions.1

PROTECTIVE BODY SHELL

The vehicle’s reinforced body shell incorporates high-strength steels to enhance the structural rigidity of the passenger compartment.

ADVANCED AIRBAGS AND SEATBELTS

In addition to driver and passenger front airbag Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS), the XF has side airbags in the outer edges of the front seats plus side curtain airbags that help protect occupants in both the front and rear outboard positions. Sensors are designed to detect the size and weight of the driver and front passenger to vary airbag deployment. At the same time, the front seatbelts feature “soft landing” technology, which softens the contact with the airbag and pre-tensions the seatbelts to help reduce slack. In addition, anti-whiplash front head restraints are designed to move forward in the event of an impact to help lessen whiplash-type injuries.1

POWER TO STOP

Large, ventilated disc brakes at each wheel provide powerful stopping capability to complement the vehicle’s acceleration. The XF Supercharged and XFR feature the Jaguar High-Performance Braking System with larger disc-brake rotors and twin-piston front calipers – in gunmetal gray (red is optional on XFR).

ADAPTIVE CRUISING

Adaptive Cruise Control, optional on all models, uses microwave radar in the front bumper to sense if a slow-moving vehicle enters your path, adjusting the throttle and brakes to maintain a constant time gap between you and the vehicle in front. Once the road clears, the system will resume the previously set speed. The radar can also signal a Forward Alert, which issues an audible warning if the traffic ahead slows quickly or another vehicle suddenly moves into your lane. Intelligent Emergency Brake (IEB) works with these systems to sense an imminent collision. It then modulates the brakes in order to minimize the speed of impact. In addition, active seatbelts detect how firmly they need to be cinched during emergency braking.1

WATCHING YOUR BLIND SPOT

The Blind Spot Monitor, standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on all other models, uses radar to take much of the uncertainty out of changing lanes. An amber warning icon will appear in the exterior mirror when the system detects vehicles alongside that may not be visible in the mirror.1

AUTOMATIC SPEED LIMITER

Working in tandem with the cruise control, an Automatic Speed Limiter allows you to select a maximum speed that should not be exceeded.

SENSING LOW PRESSURE

The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides an alert message if the pressure in any one of the tires falls below the specified level.

AIDS TO SAFER DRIVING

All XF models incorporate a host of safety systems designed to improve stability and control:1

  • Emergency brake assist
  • Electronic brake-force distribution
  • Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
  • Traction control (through engine and brake intervention)
  • Dynamic Stability Control
  • Cornering brake control
  • Engine drag torque control

COMPREHENSIVE SECURITY

Door locks on the XF can be controlled remotely from the key fob. For vehicles equipped with Keyless Entry, each door can also be locked with a button on the handle. In addition, you can also set the doors to lock automatically when the car reaches a pre-set speed, chosen by the driver. Of course, the vehicle is also protected by a security alarm and engine immobilizer.

INTUITIVE VISUAL CONTROLS

The multimedia technology in the XF range encompasses entertainment, information, communications and navigation systems. Most of these systems can be controlled from the centrally mounted seven-inch color Touch-screen display.

A RANGE OF HIGH-OUTPUT AUDIO

While XF models are fitted with one of three superb audio systems, they have several features in common. All have a CD player and provide input for iPod® and compatible MP3 players and USB storage devices. The Front Media Interface, operated through the Touch-screen, provides full control of playlists and music stored by artist, album and genre.

  • The Jaguar 250-Watt sound system includes a 10-speaker array, with a woofer and tweeter in each door. For excellent bass reproduction, the woofer is mounted higher than in most conventional systems. This audio system is fitted to XF, XF 3.0 and XF 3.0 AWD.
  • The Meridian™ 380-Watt 12-speaker premium sound system, standard on XF Supercharged and optional on all except XFR, is engineered for ultra-low distortion, and has been custom-tuned to the XF interior acoustics. Its powerful digital signal processing (DSP) amplifier includes Audyssey MultEQ technology, which automatically optimizes audio output to deliver the most clear and balanced sound possible.

This high-end system uses 17 speakers, including a large subwoofer in a 7.1 surround sound architecture. The Meridian Trifield™ surround algorithm can translate any stereo source material, such as FM radio or MP3 signals, into rich and realistic surround sound. Like the 380-Watt Meridian system, Total Harmonic Distortion is an incredibly low 0.2%.
  • Standard with either Meridian audio system are HD Radio® and SIRIUS® Satellite Radio (subscription required).

BLUETOOTH® FOR PHONE AND AUDIO

Advanced Bluetooth technology can wirelessly connect compatible cell phones to the vehicle’s built-in hands-free telephone system. Calls can be made and accepted using either the central Touch-screen, the steering wheel controls or InteractiveVoice™ (if fitted).2 Bluetooth audio streaming is also possible from advanced “smart” phones and MP3 players.

INTERACTIVEVOICE™

With InteractiveVoice2, standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on all other models, you need only press the “voice” button on the steering wheel and use spoken commands to control the audio and available navigation systems, as well as the Bluetooth® connection. The system incorporates the latest “say what you see” technology, allowing you to respond to on-screen prompts. InteractiveVoice™ can be programmed to recognize your own voice, which helps the navigation system respond to specific requests such as “restaurant” or “Jaguar Retailer.”2

HARD DISK NAVIGATION AND AUDIO

The available navigation system, standard on XF Supercharged and XFR and optional on all other models, uses mapping based on a hard-disk drive, which allows for much quicker searches and route calculations than conventional systems based on CDs or DVDs. Navigation information is initially uploaded through a DVD drive. This DVD drive can also be used to play audio CDs or, while the car is stationary, video DVDs. In addition, material from up to ten CDs can be imported on to the hard drive and played through the vehicle’s audio system.
