READY TO POUNCE
Save “cold” for the Germans, and square for the domestics. The XK has classic, ground-hugging proportions, with a long hood, powerful contours and minimal overhangs. Its sweeping, athletic lines hold immense visual energy. In short: This is a strikingly beautiful car. But it also has intelligence. Aluminum construction yields exceptional body rigidity and torsional stiffness, plus an excellent power-to-weight ratio to deliver precise handling and pulse-quickening performance.
HEADLIGHTS WITH INTELLIGENCE
To see into the night, bi-function HID xenon headlights are standard. Active Front Lighting, optional on XK and standard on XKR and XKR-S, directs the headlight beam to bend in the direction of the steering for added visibility at night. In addition, distinctive LED signature running lights, integrated into the headlights, provide a bold and modern look when the XK is in motion. Headlight washers are also standard on all models.
REDUCING GLARE
Power adjustable, heated exterior mirrors are auto-dimming, with electrochromic glass to reduce glare at night. The mirrors are also power folding to help you park in tight spaces, and can be set to fold when locking the vehicle, to give a visual indication your XK is secure.
DISTINCTIVE "R" DESIGN
The high-performance potential of the XKR is apparent at a glance. It is distinguished by its black finish upper and lower mesh grilles, body-color hood louvers incorporating a “Supercharged” script motif and, of course, “R” badges front and rear. Gray brake calipers with “Jaguar” script peek through the spokes of the alloy wheels. The optional XKR Black Pack features 20-inch Kalimnos gloss-black alloy wheels, plus gloss-black finish on the grille surrounds, air intakes, side power vents and trunk lid finisher. On Coupe models there are also gloss-black window surrounds. The Black Pack also includes a body-color Aerodynamic Pack, consisting of a front splitter and larger rear spoiler.
XKR-S DISTINCTIONS
As the ultimate XK model, the XKR-S stands apart with gloss black detailing, vibrant color schemes and unique aero-tuned bodywork. Lightweight but strong carbon fiber is used on the front splitter, rear air diffuser and rear lip spoiler. The broad, vertical side intakes in front of the front wheels and twin nacelles at the leading edge of the hood combine with the aerodynamic spoilers to reduce lift and increase directional stability at high speeds – which the XKR-S is definitely capable of.3
INTRODUCING THE XKR-S GT
Coming in the summer of 2013, the 2014 XKR-S GT is built for the driver demanding a track-capable sports car with styling to match. With a focus on handling, downforce and balance, the limited-production XKR-S GT features a unique suspension with parts adapted from the new F-TYPE sports car. Its exterior styling cues are all functional components enhancing aerodynamics and downforce, including a new, larger carbon fiber front splitter and added dive planes. In order to balance the front and rear lift, the XKR-S GT features a unique elevated carbon fiber rear wing. This addition works in concert with the deck-lid mounted lip spoiler to generate high levels of downforce and improve rear end grip. The new GT-specific hood louvers have been designed to evoke Jaguar’s rich sporting history as well as improve powertrain cooling as well as downforce. And while it’s not apparent to the eye, a functional aluminum undertray improves airflow control beneath the car and supports additional cooling for the new carbon ceramic brakes. Other outward distinctions of the GT include a Polaris White exterior, hood stripes and unique badging. The lightweight 20-inch forged alloy wheels are finished in gloss black and are mounted to wider 305-section tires in the rear. Built to commemorate 25 years of the Jaguar R line, production is limited to just 25 examples for the US. The XKR-S GT promises a select few owners the ultimate expression of the legendary Jaguar R experience.
PRECISE PARKING
Ultrasonic sensors in the front and rear bumpers are designed to detect objects up to six feet away and provide the driver with an audible warning. Graphics on the Touch-screen indicate the position of the object in relation to the car. A rear camera, which displays digital video on the Touch-screen when reversing, is also standard.1
A CUSTOM TOP
XK Convertible models have a triple-lined fabric top that can be automatically raised or lowered in less than 18 seconds, at speeds up to 15 mph. When lowered, the top is completely hidden within the bodywork. Seven convertible top colors are available to personalize your XK, XKR and XKR-S, including three special-order hues. (XK Touring convertible tops are exclusively black.)
COUPE LIFTBACK
Access to the luggage compartment on the Coupe is via a rear liftback. Strong, light and simple to operate, the design maximizes the length of the rear window, improving rear visibility along with giving exceptional access to the luggage space in the Coupe.
SENSING PRECIPITATION
Standard on all models, rain-sensing wipers use windshield-mounted sensors to detect rain, snow and other precipitation, and switch on the wipers at the appropriate speed.1
THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF CRAFTSMANSHIP
XK interior appointments are finished to the most luxurious standards. Leather is used extensively within the XK passenger cabin, along with handcrafted wood veneers and smooth metallic trim. Interior harmony is enhanced with soft-feel coatings on the switches around the JaguarDrive Selector™ and the Touch-screen2, with brighter tones on the air vents and instrument panel, and a Piano Black finish across the central console. The leather headliner trim on the XKR-S is produced by Poltrona Frau®, a renowned Italian furniture house: on Coupe models the full headliner is leather; on Convertible models the A-posts and windshield header are fitted with the Poltrona Frau leather. On the limited production 2014 XKR-S GT model, the serious performance driver enjoys a Jet Suedecloth headlining and steering wheel as well as exclusive Suedecloth seats.
EXCLUSIVE PORTFOLIO PACK
Available on XK and XKR Coupes and Convertibles, the Portfolio Pack adds a higher level of luxury and exclusivity. To complement the six available exterior colors, including exclusive Celestial Black, the Portfolio Pack interior features either Navy or Truffle colorways in soft grain leather with contrast stitching, premium carpet mats and Poltrona Frau® headliners. In addition to a choice of two unique veneers – Shadow Walnut or Dark Figured Aluminum – Portfolio Pack models include bright-finish pedals, chrome-finish exterior mirrors and grilles, unique treadplates and 20-inch Orona polished alloy wheels. The Portfolio Pack is available in limited quantities.
PHOSPHOR BLUE ILLUMINATION
The instrument panel and center console are highlighted with Phosphor Blue illumination, a hallmark of contemporary Jaguar design.
FINGERTIP CONTROLS
The leather steering wheel is heated on XK, XKR and XKR-S models and incorporates switches for cruise control and audio. They can be used to control the audio output – changing between CD tracks, radio stations or selections on an iPod® or MP3 player – as well as to adjust volume. What’s more, a Sports Steering Wheel trimmed in Jet Suedecloth for extra grip is optional on select models (not available with Adaptive Cruise Control).
INTELLIGENT KEYS
The Jaguar Smart Key System™, featuring Keyless entry and Keyless start, has been designed for maximum driver convenience. Approach the XK with the Jaguar Smart Key in your bag or pocket, pull the door release and the system unlocks the door and disarms the security system. Keyless start is activated as you get into the car – once seated behind the steering wheel, simply apply the brake and press the “Start” button, and the Jaguar V8 comes to life. Upon exiting the vehicle, locking the doors is as easy as pressing any door button – the doors will lock and the power mirrors will fold, visually confirming that the XK is locked.
MAINTAINING AN IDEAL TEMPERATURE
The dual-zone automatic climate control system incorporates individual temperature controls for both driver and front passenger. It is fully automatic, with humidity control and automatic window demisting.
AUTOMATIC SPEED LIMITER
Working in tandem with cruise control, the Automatic Speed Limiter lets you select a maximum speed that should not be exceeded.
ENHANCED INTERIOR CHOICES
Seventeen interior color themes and twelve veneers are available, depending upon model. There are three seat styles: Sport Seats, Luxury Sport Seats and Performance Seats.
- Sport Seats with non-contrast stitching are standard on XK Touring. They feature leather trim and 10-way power adjustments with three-position memory for both driver and front-passenger seats. They also incorporate to help protect occupants.
- Luxury Sport Seats are standard on XK and XKR, with contrast stitching on select colors. They feature active heating and cooling, soft grain leather, 16-way power adjustments with three-position memory for both driver and passenger seats and a whiplash reduction system.
- Performance Seats are standard on XKR-S and optional on XKR. They provide a superb combination of comfort and support, feature three-stage variable heating and have integrated head restraints. The strongly sculpted and power-adjustable side bolsters offer exceptional lateral support during hard cornering. The XKR-S features three exclusive seat designs with an embossed "R-S" logo, contrast stitching, unique Carbon Leather accents and contrast micro-piping in Red, Ivory or Reims Blue.
- The interior of the XKR-S GT has been customized to match its track capability. The Warm Charcoal interior is finished in soft-grain leather with red contrast stitching, and the Suedecloth inserts of the Performance Seats are emblazoned with an XKR-S GT logo. Jet Suedecloth headlining and heated steering wheel and Piano Black finish complete the purposeful look.
ADVANCED POWERTRAIN TECHNOLOGIES
Designed entirely in-house, the Jaguar 5.0-liter V8 engine is a showcase of advanced technologies. Spray-guided direct fuel injection, Variable Camshaft Timing, and optimized intake and exhaust tracts all help maximize power and efficiency. The XKR and XKR-S V8s receive forced air induction courtesy of a sixth-generation Eaton® supercharger. While the XKR engine’s 510 horsepower is very impressive, the XKR-S pumps out 550 horsepower – true supercar territory.3 The new 2014 XKR-S GT is motivated by that same 550 hp engine, but with its additional aerodynamics, increased grip and revised dynamics, 0-60 times are reduced to under 4 seconds.3
XKR-S GT DYNAMICS
With the standard all-aluminum XK architecture as a starting point the 2014 XKR-S GT takes both front and rear suspension systems to higher levels for the ultimate in driver involvement and sporting performance. The custom suspension consists of new subframes with a wider track, revised control arms and geometry, new bushes, half-shafts and new wheel bearings. Unique to XKR-S GT is an adjustable ride height and damper system, new anti-roll bars, revised steering and increased spring stiffness, 60% to the front and 20% to the rear. Carbon Ceramic Brakes work in concert with the forged aluminum suspension to reduce unsprung weight. And Jaguar Adaptive Dynamics have been developed further for the XKR-S GT, programmed for a higher level of body control with enhanced traction and grip.
WINTER MODE COMES STANDARD
Part of an exhilarating driving experience is driving in control. The JaguarDrive Control™ system on every 2013 Jaguar features Winter Mode1, a sophisticated setting that helps maintain traction on snowy, wet roads – so you can enjoy the drive, even in challenging weather conditions.
When activated, Winter Mode transforms the way a Jaguar car responds in slippery conditions: The engine, transmission and Dynamic Stability Control work together to help avoid slipping and skidding, while enhancing available traction in adverse weather conditions.1
JAGUARDRIVE SELECTOR™ AND JAGUARDRIVE CONTROL™
The transmission is controlled by the beautifully designed JaguarDrive Selector™, which rises into your hand once the “Start/Stop” button is pressed. Simply rotate the selector to move from Park to Reverse or Drive. JaguarDrive Control™ provides a choice of modes to suit road conditions and your driving style. Winter Mode offers damped throttle response for more progressive control in adverse weather conditions.1 Dynamic Mode provides a more responsive throttle and revised suspension settings for a sportier drive.
ADVANCED BRAKING SYSTEMS
The advanced braking systems in the XK were developed at Jaguar’s research facility at the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany. Four-channel anti-lock brakes (ABS) increase stability by preventing wheel lock-up during hard stops. Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) automatically increases brake pressure if the system senses a sharp application of the brakes. And befitting their higher performance levels, the XKR and XKR-S feature the Jaguar High Performance Braking System with larger 15-inch front and 14.8-inch rear brake rotors and aluminum calipers.1 The limited production 2014 XKR-S GT features a lighter and more powerful Carbon Ceramic Brake System that was developed in partnership with industry experts Brembo.
AN IDEAL BALANCE
Adaptive Dynamics, fitted to all XK models, analyzes speed, steering and body movements up to 500 times a second, and adjusts the electronically controlled shock absorbers to achieve the ideal balance between comfort and precise handling.
SMOOTH YET LIGHTNING QUICK
The six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission delivers smooth yet extremely quick gear changes. Adaptive shift technology varies transmission performance depending upon your driving style. For maximum driver involvement, gears can also be selected manually via Jaguar Sequential Shift™ using paddles mounted behind the steering wheel.
DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL
The Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) has two settings, and can be completely disabled if desired. The default setting comes into play as soon as it detects the wheels slipping. The Trac DSC setting, on the other hand, allows some slipping and wheelspin for sportier driving. DSC can also be completely turned off for special driving conditions.
ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE
This braking system works with the JaguarDrive Selector™, automatically releasing the parking brake when you engage Drive or Reverse. You can also choose to release the parking brake manually.
MAXIMIZING GRIP
The Active Differential proactively apportions power between the rear wheels to aid cornering and stability under acceleration. It is standard on the XKR and XKR-S models.
PROTECTIVE BODY SHELL
The XK body/chassis, whether Coupe or Convertible, is engineered for both performance and safety. This reinforced structure incorporates light-yet-strong aluminum alloys to enhance the structural rigidity of the passenger cabin, and help reduce intrusion upon impact.
CONVERTIBLE ROLLOVER PROTECTION
The Convertible has its own array of safety features, including a highly advanced rollover protection system. If the car’s on-board sensors detect an impending rollover, two strong hoops – hidden under the rear tonneau – are triggered to deploy and lock behind the rear seats within 65 milliseconds.1
ADAPTIVE RESTRAINT TECHNOLOGY
The Adaptive Restraint Technology System can help protect front-seat occupants in the event of a collision. It is designed to assess the severity of an impact within a fraction of a second and, using weight sensors in the front seats plus sensors to detect the seat position and seat belt status, to deploy the dual-stage front airbag Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) in the most appropriate manner.1
AIDS TO SAFER DRIVING
All XK models incorporate a host of safety systems designed to improve stability and driver control:1
- Emergency Brake Assist
- Electronic Brake-force Distribution
- Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
- Traction control (through engine and brake intervention)
- Dynamic Stability Control
- Cornering Brake Control
- Engine drag torque control
Understeer Control Logic is also standard. This feature can mitigate understeer by intervening through the engine management and braking systems to help restore grip at the front wheels.1
SENSING LOW PRESSURE
Sensors in each wheel continuously monitor tire air pressure, and alert you if the pressure in any one of the tires falls below the specified level.
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
When Adaptive Cruise Control is fitted, a microwave radar system in the front bumper can sense a slow-moving vehicle in your path and adjust the throttle and brakes to maintain a constant time gap between you and the vehicle in front. Once the road clears, the system will resume your previously set speed. The radar also operates a Forward Alert, which gives you an audible warning if the traffic ahead slows quickly or another vehicle suddenly moves into your lane.1 (Adaptive Cruise Control is not available on XK Touring or XKR-S models.)
SECURITY
Door locks on the XK can be controlled either remotely from the key fob, or directly from the door handle using the standard Jaguar Smart Key System™ Keyless entry. The doors can be set for single-point or multi-point entry, where only the driver’s door unlocks or both doors unlock at once. You can also set the doors to lock automatically when the car reaches a pre-set speed. In addition, the XK is protected by an alarm and an engine immobilizer. You can be reassured with the fact that the security system encryption allows for approximately 64 billion combinations.
FULL COLOR TOUCH-SCREEN
The seven-inch Touch-screen display can be used to control most major infotainment functions, simply and intuitively, keeping the number of conventional switches to a minimum. It can operate many features, including the audio system, Bluetooth® connectivity, navigation and climate control.2
JAGUAR PREMIUM SOUND SYSTEM
Standard on XK Touring Coupe or Convertible, this 525-watt audio system features Surround Sound enhancement and deep, rich sound. A single-disc CD player can read multiple formats, and a USB Portable Audio Interface lets you connect an iPod® or MP3 player to enjoy your own playlists.
BOWERS & WILKINS® SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM
Designed and tuned for the XK by Bowers & Wilkins®, the 525-watt audio system features Dolby® Pro Logic® II 7.1 Surround Sound and 14 strategically placed speakers for audiophile-quality sound reproduction. Kevlar® cones in the larger speakers improve audio response and reduce distortion, while aluminum-dome tweeters improve sound reproduction at high frequencies. The system includes an AM/FM radio and SIRIUS® Satellite Radio (with 3-month trial subscription), as well as a six-disc in-dash CD changer and a USB Portable Audio Interface. HD Radio® is standard on XKR and XKR-S, an option on XK and not available on XK Touring. SIRIUS Satellite Radio not available on XKR-S Convertible.
PORTABLE AUDIO INTERFACE
The Portable Audio Interface provides full-function control of most iPods® or compatible MP3 players, allowing you to access playlists, or search by artist, album or genre. USB storage devices with MP3 music files can also be accessed via the interface.
TELEPHONE CONNECTIVITY
Bluetooth® technology allows compatible mobile phones to communicate wirelessly with the vehicle for hands-free calling.2
DIRECTIONS TO GO
The standard GPS navigation system is sophisticated but extremely easy to use. Controlled with your input via the Touch-screen, the system can provide directions on the Touch-screen and also on the message center in the instrument cluster using 2D turn displays. Not only is it fully programmable, but it can also automatically show the locations of the nearest gas stations when fuel is running low.
