Jaguar has again raised the standard for luxury cars with a new generation of the XJ sedan. The flagship of the Jaguar range benefits from exterior changes, technological advances and additional features on all 2008 model year cars. Blending handcraftsmanship, innovative technology, and timeless design, this is an agile luxury sedan, beautifully sculptured, exceptionally strong, and a joy to drive.
The new XJ has a more contemporary, assertive and sporting exterior look and significant enhancements to the renowned interiors, as well as advanced intuitive in-car technology.
The XJ's handsome aluminum shell is 40% lighter than an equivalent steel body, and yet it's more than 60% stiffer than the previous steel XJ body, resulting in exceptional driving dynamics, lower emissions, shorter stopping distance, and dramatically improved fuel economy1.
Jaguar Car's Director of Design, Ian Callum, explains the inspiration behind the new look: "Every Jaguar must have a distinctive face, something that you cannot mistake if you catch a glimpse of it in your rear-view mirror as it powers up behind you. The new 2008 XJ range meets that challenge thanks to a new grille and bold new bumper style."
Set into the front bumper are new upper and lower mesh grilles with chromed detailing that accentuates the car's major air intakes. Behind the front wheels, two power vents (in bright finish on the supercharged XJR) match those introduced on the beautiful new XK sports car. New door mirrors carry integrated indicator lights, while new 19 and 20 inch wheels add to the XJ's confident stance.
A fully reworked rear end displays a newly redesigned bumper, subtle aero spoiler and revised tailpipe finishers.
The 2008 Model Year XJ also enjoys significant enhancements to its interior including new heated front seats (with optional air-cooling), which have been extensively redesigned. Seat cushioning for both base and back have been redesigned to add support and enhance comfort.
Jaguar's intuitive technology has been designed to empower not overpower the driver. Features such as satellite navigation, BluetoothTM and audio entertainment systems are supported and controlled by an available 7-inch Touch-screen or JaguarVoiceTM control. Other available driver aids include Adaptive Cruise Control which maintains a set following interval from vehicles ahead.
Advanced, state-of the-art safety features, such as Adaptive Restraint Technology System (A.R.T.S) deploys driver and passenger airbags according to a number of variables including occupant position, weight, and safety belt use. Side-curtain airbags, front seat side airbags and energy-absorbent front seat backrests help provide a safe driving experience for all occupants.
