Once you have switched it on, Park Assist uses sensors around your Jaguar vehicle to measure potential parking spaces as you drive past. Once it has detected a space that is at least 20 percent longer than your car, it asks you to stop, let go of the steering wheel and select reverse gear, via the touchscreen and instrument cluster. It then takes over the steering as you accelerate in reverse. If you try to steer yourself, the system deactivates.4
Still, you should always remain alert for objects, other vehicles, children and animals in the vicinity. You control the accelerator and brakes, so you can go as slowly as you like and stop when you need to.4
If you need to change your direction, for example, it will ask you to stop and choose a forward or reverse gear, as necessary. It will still control the steering to park your Jaguar neatly within the space.
There are three modes: Parallel Park helps you reverse into a parking space parallel to your car, Perpendicular Park gets you neatly into a space at 90 degrees to your car and Parking Exit helps you leave a parallel space.
To activate the Park Assist auto-searching feature, you just need to slow down below 18 mph. Alternatively, you can activate Park Assist via the touchscreen. You also use the button to choose which mode you need—Parallel Park, Perpendicular Park or Parking Exit—and to switch the system off.4
Using Park Assist is not recommended on a curved road or on a narrow road with cars parked on both sides. A minimum road width of 14.75 feet between parked cars is required.
The Park Assist system detects large objects, such as other vehicles, but may not detect hazards such as children, animals, mesh fences, bicycles or motorbikes near the curb. You should remain alert to your surroundings.4
